How to Increase Traffic to Your Website

I recently found this amazing infographic with some great tips on improving your website to help bring more traffic.

That is something that we all want to have and getting some advice on this is always helpful, so I have included the graphic for you to enjoy.

Below the infographic are some of the key tips on getting your website up to speed and increasing traffic to it.

increase traffic website

1. Create amazing Content

Not something new for any of us, but worth repeating. Create amazing content:

  • unique
  • relevant
  • useful

And make sure it is related to the topics and products of your website.

2. Get On Google+

Being on social media is always useful in generating traffic, and with Google owning Google+, it is perhaps one of the most important.

So do the following:

  • Setup a google+ account and link it to your website
  • Setup your authorship for the website

3. Optimize On Page SEO

Of course never forget the basics, as this is what launches your SEO for your website.

Keep the on page SEO going at all times, so we are talking:

  • URL
  • Headings
  • keywords
  • image alt text

4. Site Performance

Your site should always be running like a tight ship. That means that it is fast and responsive.

It pays to check your site on tools.pingdom.com to make sure it is something like a 3 second load time.

I would also recommend having a mobile responsive site – aka mobile ready.

5. Earn Backlinks

If you are doing all of the above well, you should by now be earning back links from your peers.

In order to increase this, you also need to share your content as much as possible. That way people will see it.

Sending emails to key influencers is also a great idea.

6. Submit your site to Search Engines

Last but not least, make sure your site is submitted to things like Google Webmaster tools and also to Bing.

If they do not know you exist and when you new content is ready, they will not be able to index it and place it in the search engines.

The Current State of SEO

SEO is constantly changing and it pays as a website owner to keep on top of the latest developments.

Google changes their algorithm like I change my underpants. And there have been a lot of changes lately.

From Penguin to Panda and Hummingbird and Pigeon. Google have been very very busy.

And this has a huge effect on how we do SEO in 2014. So what is still working in SEO?

The Basics – On Page SEO

Never forget to keep the basics in mind when it comes to SEO. On page SEO is as important today as it ever was.

So you should be taking care of the fundamentals whenever you publish a piece of content:

  • URL
  • Title
  • Heading tags
  • keyword density
  • Meta description

All of these things are very important as a foundation to the SEO of any given page on your website. So don’t forget to do these before you publish any page to maximize your potential!

Content is Still King

The old statement that content is king, still holds. Google still wants to see you publishing great content and regularly. In fact, the more content you have on your site, the more chance you have of ranking your pages for the keywords that you are targeting.

How often should you publish? Well, there is no answer to this question but another question. It depends on how much time you have. How often your audience is used to receiving new content, or even if they are expecting it at all. Don’t publish something just to publish. Putting poorly though out rubbish onto the internet is not a good policy for anyone.

I would suggest at least once a week, to publish a post on a topic that is related to your main product or service. Or even a related post that leads people to know you as an authority in your niche.

Link Building

Although it is less important than it was, links are still the number one way that Google knows that your site is important. So in that case, link building is still very important for SEO and ranking your website in the top ten of Google. The place that everyone wants to be for sure.

So how do you go about link building in 2014.

Well the number one way to get links it to produce amazing content that people want to link to. Things like definitive guides to a topic, or summaries or in depth material that you have collated. Then go out and find people to share it with, with the hope of getting links from them. Only 1 in 10 might actually link, but it is worth the effort, right?

Getting other types of links is still worthwhile, like social media profiles and a few top directories. It can also pay to go out and comment on blogs in your niche, at least a little bit. A good link profile has all of these kinds of links in one form or another.

Conclusion

Many of the basics of SEO are still the same, only now there is a focus on good links and great content. So make sure you have posting awesome stuff for your readers on a regular basis and all will be golden with Google.
