What is Search Engine Optimization (SEO) ? Does my website need Search Engine Optimization? That depends how many visitors or how much traffic you wish to receive. Does your website's theme or content compete with a very large or competitive market? If it does, your website will definitely need someone experienced to help you achieve a good positioning in the search engines for your various keywords/phrases. How can I optimize my own website? A good rule of thumb is to create a lot of keyword rich content. Think keyword density when you're writing or re-writing your content. Don't repeat keywords too often but use them naturally throughout your text and make sure there's a decent amount of content on each page and that it's "search engine friendly". Create backlinks (links from other websites pointing to your website) with keyword phrases as the link title. This is called "anchor text" and it plays an important role in Google's algorithm. No single factor of the algorithm can be given too much importance, it's a combination of each which must be taken into account and optimized to achieve a good position in the search engines. Link to your site from other websites with a similar content. This can be done through Blogs, Article Directories, Reciprocal Linking, Forums, Etc. Link internally to all your web pages to make sure they all get indexed quickly. Search engine spiders will only index all of your pages if another page is linking to them. A good way to do this is by creating a sitemap with links to navigate your website. Use this free service to check how many Backlinks your website currently has.
