Improving your Search Results:
To do so, you should do a search for your keywords and find other websites that have similar content to your website and ask them to link back to you. You may have to do a Reciprocal Link Exchange with some webmasters to achieve this. For example, if you would like to increase your ranking for the search term "Search Engine Optimization" then you should try to get links from other websites that discuss the search term throughly. Highlight the bold text and you will notice that it is directed to this website. When we place our search terms in text links it's like telling the search engines that the content on that particular website refers to "Search Engine Optimization" and the search engines will give that site more priority for those specific keywords. The text used in links pointing to your website is called "Anchor Text" and it plays a very important role in the most popular search engines. The links pointing to your website will not only increase your position in the search engines, but it will also increase your Google PageRank. PageRank is a measurement of the specific webpage's importance in Google. You can view your website's PageRank by installing the Google Toolbar. Using the Google Toolbar will also help your find other websites with a high PageRank for exchanging links.
Although Search Directories have lost much value recently in the SERPs you can receive quite a number of high PR links if you're able to get listed in one of the popular directories. The most popular directories are revised by people which assures the quality of the links being submitted. Make sure your website is complete and optimized before trying to submit to the directories or you may be rejected.
Flash, Frames and Javascript are difficult for some search engines to follow or read. Make sure your content is Spider Friendly or you may have trouble getting all your webpages indexed in the search engines.
Each webpage is like a letter of presentation for your company to the search engines. The "Title" and "Description" metatags are identifiers of relevant terms thoughout your website. The "Title" metatag should be carefully modified for your top keywords. Keep in mind that the keywords used in your Title, Description & Keywords metatags should appear within the content of your website as well. If you do not mention the keywords within your website, you will not receive much, if any, benefit from using them in the Title, Description or Keywords metatags. You may even get penalized for using keywords that do not appear in the content of your website. This is considered Keyword Spamming.
A Sitemap (.XML for Google Sitemaps and .HTM on site) is a page which displays all the links within your website. Each link should have a detailed description and help the user navigate easily throughout your website. This will help you get all of your webpages indexed by the search engine robots, also known as spiders.
